Quality Matters - Applying the QM Rubric

Indiana University has subscribed to Quality Matters (QM) as a tool and process for the design, development, and ongoing review of online courses, especially those that are part of the IU Online initiative. The Applying the QM Workshop is QM's flagship workshop on the QM Rubric and the process of using the QM Rubric to review online courses. It is intended for a broad audience, including but not limited to faculty, instructional designers, administrators, and adjunct instructors who wish to understand more about the QM Rubric and process of course review.
This workshop will introduce faculty and staff to the QM Rubric and Process, sharing best practices for online course design. The QM Rubric is a research-based set of standards that can be used during the course design process. The QM Process is a peer review process that eventually will review many IU Online courses, with the goal of achieving QM Recognition for mature online courses in the near future. Also, the APPQMR is the pre-requisite for the Peer Reviewer Course, which is the required course to become a QM Peer Reviewer.
This workshop will be offered at IUPUI face-to-face from 9am until 4pm, with occasional breaks. Participants will have one hour for lunch, and are free to bring their own lunch or take advantage of the many options in the IUPUI Campus Center. To receive the QM certificate of completion for this workshop, participants must be present for and participate in the entire workshop.

Teaching@IUPUI is an ongoing series of online mini-workshops focused on foundational teaching skills. Designed for new faculty, adjunct faculty, graduate students, and those looking for a refresher on good teaching practices, the workshops are short (usually 30 minutes), with a brief presentation interspersed with opportunities for interaction and questions. Grounded in current research, the workshops address various teaching topics and provide participants with strategies and resources to make instruction more effective, efficient, and enjoyable.

Curriculum Enhancement Grant Proposals Due Friday, January 17

The Curriculum Enhancement Grant (CEG) initiative is designed to provide faculty with support, time, and resources to implement projects designed to improve student learning and success at IUPUI and IUPU Columbus. In addition, it is expected that the grants will increase faculty competitiveness for external educational or curricular improvement grants and increase the number of faculty involved in pursuing the scholarship of teaching and learning. CEG funds will be used to support projects in three tracks: General Track, Special Focus in Support of IU Online Track, and the Intergroup Dialogue Initiative Track. Individual faculty members can apply for up to $5,000. Teams of three or more faculty working on three or more courses can apply for a maximum of $15,000 per proposal. The grants are open to IUPUI and IUPU Columbus full-time faculty. See the 2014 Curriculum Enhancement Grant (CEG) Request for Proposals for more information.

Travel Grants for Former CEG Recipients

The purpose of the Travel Grants for Former CEG Recipients is to provide past recipients of Curriculum Enhancement Grants (CEG) with additional funds to support travel to either further disseminate results of the original CEG project beyond what was supported on the original grant or to support dissemination of work that is an extension of the original project.
All past CEG principal investigators or co-principal investigators who have completed their CEG projects are eligible to apply, but awards will be limited to $1,000 per project. CEG Travel Grants will be competitive. Grant funds will be awarded when the recipient has provided documentation that the presentation has been accepted and the recipient has registered for the meeting. Recipients will be expected to submit a report after their travel is complete.

Showcase your work and contribute your expertise by submitting a proposal to present at the 10th annual IUPUI Robert G. Bringle Civic Engagement Showcase and Symposium (CESS) to be held on Wednesday, April 23rd, 2014, in the Campus Center.
This year's theme is Healthy and Engaged Communities: Campus and Community Partnerships as Strategies to Support the Well-Being of Indianapolis and Beyond .
We are looking for fresh perspectives, great ideas, and lessons from the field. Share new ideas or highlight noteworthy projects, research and best-practices with IUPUI and the Indianapolis community who come to hear about your experiences, insights, and lessons learned and be inspired by your passion to improve the quality of healthy and engaged communities. Whether you are a seasoned presenter or submitting for the first time, you are encouraged to submit a proposal to present a workshop or poster, or host a peer group or roundtable session. Proposal deadline is January 31, 2014, so hurry and apply now !
