Project Title: Implementing E-Portfolios in Tourism, Event and Sport Management Courses
Funding Level: $5000
Abstract: The Department of Tourism, Event, and Sport Management (TESM) is submitting this grant to facilitate the integration of e-portfolio into the curriculum for students majoring in Tourism, Conventions, and Event Management (TCEM) and Sport Management (SM). Building on a leadership position on campus with first-year experiences, capstones, internships, project-based learning, and other engaged pedagogies, the TESM department is addressing a noticeable missing component with e-portfolios. The TESM department has identified that increased reflection on its experiential learning activities, which are implemented in courses throughout the curriculum, would greatly benefit students. The adoption of e-portfolios throughout multiple courses in the TESM curriculum would help students reflect on their service learning experiences with industry partners, their classroom projects and their entire campus experience. The grant authors will identify key leverage points in the curriculum to integrate e-portfolio, help faculty level-up their e-portfolio creation skills, embed e-portfolio into the culture of the department and all faculty, and create and monitor all assessment activities. Project goals include engaging five faculty members to include an e-Portfolio assignment in their course in Fall 2022, introduce all TESM students to the e-Portfolio concept in Fall 2022, sharing the e-Portfolios with the TESM community in Fall 2022, participation in a showcase event with e-Portfolios, increasing TESM students’ reflection on their learning experiences in Fall 2022 through new e-Portfolio assignments in Fall 2002 courses, and achieving 90 percent TESM student participation in Fall 2022 through launch of e-Portfolios assignment in designated courses.
