Project Title: Revise the currently suspended certificate in global health and rehabilitation to meet the needs of today’s students amidst a changing global environment
Funding Level: $5000
Abstract: The World Health Organization (WHO) started celebrating World Health Day in 1949, to bring attention to important global health concerns. The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the importance of understanding global health and how health and rehabilitation services may be addressed differently across the globe. To appropriately prepare Health Sciences students for their roles in global healthcare, the Health Sciences program plans to re-establish the Certificate in Global Health and Rehabilitation. With some minor curricular changes to the Certificate, students will be well-prepared for their role as future healthcare leaders. Changes will include an update to the content in the Certificate courses, the designing of a new global health course, more hands-on experiences, and connection with other international, global universities and health care providers abroad. By integrating virtual learning experiences throughout the Certificate, more students will have access to health care system knowledge through eliminating the financially burdensome, traditional study abroad experiences. The Certificate in Global Health and Rehabilitation will empower students at IUPUI and Ft. Wayne to be healthcare leaders, whether as a clinician, administrator, or policy maker, and help establish them as top candidates for employment in the health care system both in the U.S. and internationally.
