The Center for Teaching and Learning is delighted to announce the Fall 2024 Teaching Foundations series of four 60-minute interactive webinars on the theme of "Navigating Difficult Dialogues in Your Course".
Navigating Difficult Dialogues in Your Course
Empowering educators to promote positive student learning experiences and outcomes out of difficult and challenging classroom discussions is at the heart of the "Navigating Difficult Dialogues in Your Course" webinar series. This series is designed to equip instructors to:
- explore and use tools and strategies necessary to turn challenging classroom moments into opportunities for growth and constructive dialogue.
- foster a respectful and inclusive learning atmosphere that enhances student engagement and creates a space where every viewpoint is valued.
- Support responsible, informed, and civically engaged classroom conversations.
This series will consist of of the following four webinars:
- Creating Ground Rules for Positive Classroom Engagement
- How to Prepare for Challenging Moments During Discussions
- Role of Media Literacy and Critical Thinking in Discussions
- Calming “Hot” Moments in Your Classroom
Participants' Engagement
Throughout each webinar, you will actively participate in interactive discussions, collaborative activities, and reflect on your current practices. We will provide you with valuable resources, including handouts, case studies, and further readings, to support your professional growth and facilitate the implementation of new strategies.
Letter of Completion (Optional)
In support of your ongoing commitment to professional development, the CTL is pleased to offer a letter of completion for inclusion in your teaching portfolio. To qualify, simply attend all four webinars and submit a one- to two-page reflection by Monday, December 9, 2024.

NOTE: The Teaching Foundations Series (previously known as the Teaching@IUPUI Webinar series) is held online using Zoom. You will need working speakers to hear the presenter. It is strongly recommended that you have a high-speed Internet connection to participate in this session.
