Introduction to Psychology eBook Enhancement Project

Abstract:
This project will focus on revising and enhancing the departmentally authored PSY B110 Introduction to Psychology eBook. The B110 textbook was created in 2012 and underwent a major revision in 2017. Since then, minor updates have been made on an as-needed basis. The book has several desirable qualities. It is distributed to students through the IU eText initiative keeping the cost low and ensuring student access from the first day of class and it includes embedded links to several Worth Publisher assets like short tutorials and videos. Nevertheless, faculty often report that students do not regularly read the textbook and the tutorials are neither very visible to students nor frequently used. To provide our students with a more engaging reading and learning experience, this project will involve making enhancements to the entire eBook with a focus on embedding engagement activities and “check your understanding” questions throughout the book. Many publisher-provided textbooks today are highly interactive with engaging activities and assessments embedded within the reading experience. The goal of this project is to take advantage of the technological tools available to enhance student learning, increase class preparedness, and improve exam readiness.
