Instructional Guides for Structuring and Organizing your Courses

The following guides have been developed to provide step-by-step instructions to create course elements that can help you structure and organize your courses. 

• Creating and Organizing Canvas Modules

  Build your course structure in the Canvas Modules tool by duplicating the template module and giving each duplicate a meaningful name indicating what you are talking about during that time. You can also practice writing a module overview page, working with a Canvas Assignment and Discussion, and adding and deleting Module items.

• Creating a Syllabus

  Think about both what you say, and how you say things in your syllabus. This guide also encourages you to check and make sure all the important sections are present, and that all boilerplate language reflects the reality of your course delivery format.  

• Creating your Course Map

  Make and describe choices to help students achieve the course learning objective while learning in the new format selected for your course (e.g., "distance-other", "hybrid-distance", "hybrid-traditional", and "face-to-face").
