2025 Curriculum Enhancement Grants – Request for Proposals is now Open!

Do you have an idea for a course or curricular enhancement that you are passionate about implementing? Faculty from IU Indianapolis, IU Columbus, and IU Fort Wayne are invited to submit a proposal to enhance their course/curricula in one of four tracks.

This workshop serves as an introduction to the online social annotation tool, Hypothesis. During the workshop, participants will learn how Hypothesis can foster collaboration with peers and promote student engagement with course reading materials. We will also discuss new Hypothesis features, such as the ability to annotate Canvas Pages.

- identify ways to implement a Hypothesis assignment into their Canvas course;

IU Indianapolis has a strong portfolio of engaged learning opportunities, including undergraduate research, service learning, study abroad, internships, and capstone experiences. These forms of experiential learning have been designated a high-impact practices based on “evidence of significant educational benefits for students who participate in them—including and especially those from demographic groups historically underserved by higher education” (American Association of Colleges & Universities). Embedding high-impact practices directly into courses is a powerful strategy for promoting equitable access to experiential and applied learning opportunities for our students. The Institute for Engaged Learning (go.iu.edu/engage) is committed to providing instructors with a wide-array of professional development opportunities, which include multiple-day “When Done Well” professional development institutes, communities of practice (over Zoom or Teams), and 1:1 consultations.
High-Impact Practice Weekly Drop-in Zoom Consultations
The Institute for Engaged Learning hosts drop-in Zoom consultations once a week for any IU Indianapolis, IU Columbus, or IU Ft. Wayne faculty that wants to connect with experts on one or more high-impact practices. Consultants will communicate with faculty to explore issues surrounding their high-impact practice work, and link faculty to additional experts and resources.

- proposal development guidelines including using generative AI.

When you use Canvas to provide instructional materials, engage students in activities, or assess student understanding, Canvas gathers data about it. Using built-in dashboards, you can easily access a variety of data and see how students are engaging with your Canvas course site. This kind of data is a good starting place to identify indicators of success or challenges in your courses. Combined with other sources of student feedback, data can become information you can actively use to support student success.
In this webinar you will learn how to access various types of Canvas data, what they do and don’t mean, and how to supplement that data to paint a fuller picture of your course. We will also discuss ethical considerations, thoughts on revising materials and interactions to provide more usable data, and recommendations for promoting student agency and trust.
