Canvas and Oncourse Fall 2014 Course Availability
Fall 2014 courses are now available for faculty (instructor of record) access in both Canvas and Oncourse. Students will have access to fall course sites in Oncourse beginning Thursday, July 24. For courses being taught in Canvas, students will have access as soon as the instructor publishes the course.
While Oncourse will continue to be available through summer, 2016, you can start teaching with Canvas now. To access Canvas:
- Point your Web browser to this link: http://canvas.iu.edu Click the Login button, and enter your IU username and passphrase to access the Canvas system.
- Once you’re logged in to Canvas, under the “Courses & Groups” menu, you should see your fall, 2014 course(s).
Will my students see my Canvas or Oncourse course site?
While all fall 2014 IU courses are available in both Canvas and Oncourse, students will not be able to access course sites in Canvas until they are published. If you are not interested in teaching with Canvas this fall, there is no special action you need to take to prevent your students from accessing your Canvas course – they will only be able to access their Oncourse course sites.
What is the Canvas Redirector Tool?
When you login to your fall 2014 Oncourse course site, you will see a button, “Start teaching this course in Canvas” (note this button is only visible to users in the instructor or assistant role). If you’re planning to teach with Canvas, click this button which will hide most tools in your Oncourse site. All course members then – upon logging in to the Oncourse site – will be automatically redirected to the corresponding Canvas site. Note that should you later change your mind and wish to teach with Oncourse, a corresponding button, “Stop teaching this course in Canvas” will be visible (but again only to instructors and assistants), which will disable the automatic redirection to Canvas.

Captivate is a tool from Adobe that can be used to create many different types of eLearning content: slide shows, software demonstrations, simulations, and other interactive media projects. While Captivate is a good tool for presenting material to learners, it becomes even more powerful when we add an assessment to our eLearning project. This hands-on workshop teaches you everything you need to know in order to add a quiz to your next Captivate 6 project.
