Project Title: Mapping School-Community Relations
Funding Level: $5,000
Abstract:
This proposal describes a curriculum enhancement to be implemented in two courses in the Educational Leadership Urban Principalship Program. The project, entitled “Mapping School Community Relations” involves the integration of technology and the development of leadership competencies and knowledge in ways that target deep thinking, relevant and authentic work, student agency and purposeful use of technology. Given the demands on educational leaders to engage the community in which their schools are situated, leadership preparation must attend to the political, cultural, organizational and ethical dimensions of engaging a diverse constituency whose members often represent competing interests. The proposed assignment would be developed first for A510: School Community Relations, and expanded upon for A695: Practicum in Educational Leadership. The CEG would support the following: a) development of a sample project incorporating digital mapping, multimedia, community engaged inquiry and critical analysis; b) development of instructional components; c) development of rubrics; d) evaluation of effectiveness. Students who will engage in this project are seeking a license in Building Level Leadership through the state of Indiana.
