Project Title: Development of an Interdisciplinary Certificate in Themed Attraction Design
Funding Level: $15,000
Abstract:
When looking at the future of a program it is imperative to understand where the industry is going and what the students need to work in the field. The following project aims to support the curriculum development for three courses in Themed Attraction Design (TAD), a new concentration and a certificate within the Computer Graphics Technology (CGT) program in the Purdue School of Engineering & Technology at IUPUI. Themed attraction is an ever-growing field that involves multiple disciplines with media and graphics at its’ core. Themed attractions can be created for theme parks, live event venues such as theater and concert, retail and education. Along with three main courses in Themed Attraction Design (TAD), a certificate will involve courses from multiple disciplines and will also be used within other majors to provide students the experience of creating attractions for entertainment, performance and education. Students from majors such as CGT, Interior Design Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Informatics and Theater could take advantage of such courses and a certificate and work together in an interdisciplinary setting as they seek to understand the industry and solve problems in TAD. As well, a unique partnership with Universal Studios Orlando will be leveraged to create a once-in-a-lifetime educational opportunity for students who complete the certificate.
