Project Title: Enhancing Learning through Augmented Reality with 3D Print Technology
Funding Level: $10,000
Abstract:
Enhancing Learning through Augmented Reality with 3D Print Technology bridges the technology of 3D print and augmented reality with medical student education. This collaborative project is designed to enhance the learning for both third year medical students and graduate Media Arts and Science (MAS) students. Medical students will have the opportunity to learn musculoskeletal exams with the aid of an interactive joint model, as well as with an online, asynchronous 3D virtual reality model. This project will improve the musculoskeletal curriculum with novel technologies aimed at improving the learning experience and facilitating long-term knowledge and acquisition of these critical techniques. Graduate MAS students will have the opportunity to work on a more complex 3D modeling project that links the physical and virtual worlds while combining efforts with a discipline unlike theirs. Through the use of a constructivist model, both learning cohorts experience a deeper, more meaningful educational experience which in turn provides for elevated learning and retention.
