2022 Scholarly Teaching Symposium
Proposal submission is closed
The Scholarly Teaching Symposium celebrates teaching devoted to pursuing student learning and success through reflective, evidence-based teaching practices. Scholarly teaching enhances the learning experiences of students, enriches the teaching careers of faculty, and deepens the connection of community partners with the campus. This year’s symposium is cosponsored by the IU Indianapolis Center for Teaching and Learning, the IU Indianapolis Institute for Engaged Learning, LEAP Indiana, and the IU Indianapolis Bepko Learning Center.
The symposium will be held on Friday, October 7 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Lilly Auditorium located in the University Library. The symposium planning committee seeks proposals for 10-minute presentations, which would be followed by five minutes for Q&A.
This year’s theme is Strengthening Student-Instructor Connections. The ongoing pandemic and the heightened focus on inclusive and equitable teaching and learning has led to many rapid yet promising changes in student and instructor experiences and relationships, in and outside the classroom. Instructors, program directors, and staff supervising co-curricular activities are incorporating more inclusive and equitable teaching practices to create more welcoming learning environments to meet the diverse needs of all students and foster a sense of belonging. Building connections for both instructors and students has become an immediate and complex challenge.
This call for proposals is an invitation to all those instructors, staff supervising co-curricular experiences, and program directors, who take a reflective, evidence-based approach to teaching and have an impactful story to share about how they’ve strengthened connections with their students to support their learning and success. We encourage instructors to invite one or two students to co-present their experiences.
