Project Title: Preparing Advanced Practice Nurses to Deliver Telehealth Services
DEI Focus
Funding Level: $5,000
Abstract: The School of Nursing offers master’s level advanced practice nursing programs including nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialist options. A review of the graduate curriculum found limited content related to Telehealth. As a result, students receive little knowledge of Telehealth and no practical experience delivering Telehealth services. Many of our clinical partners have recently moved to Telehealth appointments in response to the pandemic. Our advanced practice nursing students need to be fully prepared to participate in these clinical practicum experiences. More importantly, they must develop telehealth competence to meet the health care needs of the public upon graduation. Many Indiana residents, particularly diverse and rural populations, are living in underserved areas with reduced access to care. Advanced practice nurses trained in the use of telehealth technology will be poised to fill the role of primary care provider to these underserved patients. We propose to design, implement, and evaluate a multimodal telehealth learning module for advanced practice nursing students. The purpose of this project is to prepare advanced practice nurses with knowledge and skills necessary to provide Telehealth through enhanced curricular content.
