Project Title: A Hands-On Approach to Online Introductory Chemistry Education

Abstract:
Over the past three years, the number of students taking chemistry courses at IUPUC has nearly doubled due to the increased growth in related majors. The aim of this project is to better accommodate these students by developing an online version of Elementary Chemistry 1 (ChemC 101), to be offered first in the spring of 2017. As the first chemistry course many students take at IUPUC, the added flexibility of an online section will give more students access to this required course. To ensure that the academic rigor of this course is not jeopardized, students in this online course will use a kit of physical models that will be used with specifically designed homework assignments and projects. This novel approach will allow students in the online section to have a used with specifically designed homework assignments and projects.
