Project Title: A Novel Approach for a New Course in Integrated Sensor Systems, A Senior Multidisciplinary Course Within Electrical and Computer Engineering Program

Abstract:
A novel approach for a new course is to be developed at the ECE department at IUPUI that addresses challenges within the current ECE curriculum. With recent technology in materials and devices, ECE programs across the nation are unable to address or keep up with the fast growth in technology, and this has been reflected in meeting the challenge of high school students who may have different expectations to study at the electrical and computer engineering programs. In recent years, there have been demands from ECE students to see courses that deal with Digital Signal Processors (DSP) interfaced to MEMs/NEMs (micro electromechanical systems/nano electromechanical systems), incorporated with wireless devises. The limitation in faculty size made it very challenging to address such important topics with wireless applications, an area that is very highly demanded by US industry. Traditional courses in the ECE applications, an area that is very highly demanded by US industry. Traditional courses in the ECE curriculum are not designed to address multidisciplinary areas where elements from practical devices, DSPs, wireless, sensors, all integrated one system. This proposed course is an interdisciplinary engineering course that integrates sensor systems via wireless network. The approach of this proposed course is a departure from the traditional curriculum that is designed to serve as a novel model that prepares future engineers following engineering 2020 guidelines.
