The Center for Teaching and Learning invites faculty and instructional staff of all ranks and appointment types to Scholars Teaching for Student Success: What Works, What’s Next   featuring Dr. Kimberly Tanner, a nationally recognized biology education researcher at San Francisco State University and the 2018 Curriculum Enhancement Grant (CEG) scholars presenting posters on their results. For event registration and schedule.

Thinking about flipping part of your class but you're not sure where to start? Join us for a 4-session bootcamp and jumpstart your progress! You will learn about flipped course design and practice with a variety of content creation tools and active learning strategies. The Bootcamp is structured as a flipped class so you experience being a student in the style of course you are developing. Organized as a series of discussions, the Associate Faculty Teaching Forum offers an opportunity to join your colleagues from many departments to discuss and to explore approaches to commonly encountered teaching issues at IUPUI. 

Jay Gladden, Associate Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education, will give this year’s keynote address, "Importance of Faculty in Student Persistence and Success." The ATLT Symposium brings the higher education community together to examine and showcase both existing, and emerging instructional technologies, and their pedagogical application across a variety of disciplines.

Our keynote speaker, Open Education Librarian Michelle Reed at the University of Texas Arlington, will share her perspective on OER in higher education.  We will also reprise our popular "technology playground" to provide some hands-on experience. Join us November 8, for the 2019 Advancing Teaching and Learning with Technology Symposium.

Getting ready for the start of the new semester and wondering what your classroom looks like or what type of technology may be available to you and your students? UITS Classroom Technologies has several resources available to assist you.  Faculty can check out their classrooms ahead of time virtually through the Classroom Database.  If you would like an overview of the technology available in your classroom, you can schedule a time to meet with someone in your classroom by filling out the Learning Spaces Contact Form.

Are you tired of watching your students’ eyes glaze over? Are you interested in knowing more about what your students know (or don’t know)? In this webinar, Top Hat trainers will share everything you need to know in order to implement basic active learning into the classroom. Instructors from all IU campuses are invited to participate in this webinar.

Top Hat is a student response system and comprehensive teaching platform that instructors can use to engage students both within and outside of the classroom with interactive slides, graded questions, customized content, videos, discussions, and polls. Students use smartphones, tablets, laptops, or ordinary cell phones to participate in Top Hat activities.

At Indiana University, an enterprise license agreement allows all students to use Top Hat free of charge.

Join us on select Thursdays in September and October for casual conversations, brainstorming, and a little exercise at Wood Fountain, just south of the IUPUI Library. All you need is your ideas, questions...and maybe a pair of walking shoes.

UITS Learning Technologies and the IUPUI University Library are partnering to host the Scholars Book Fair at IUPUI on Friday, September 13, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Hine Hall 102 (IP102) and the Idea Garden. This event is meant to be a low-key, fun way for you to explore a range of resources, all related to affordable content, that you might not have considered before. For more information and to register: go.iu.edu/bookfair.

Get fall semester off to a great start by registering for the IU Online Conference to be held October 30.  Registration deadline is September 27. 

This year's conference will feature panel discussion by chief online officers from large public institutions who will discuss various aspects of online education at their respective universities, as well as their perspectives on the future of online education.

The Polis Center at IUPUI is offering a series of free workshops to build data literacy skills and use the SAVI community information system as a resource. SAVI Training is a hands-on curriculum focused on data literacy from end to end. It features four groups of modules that teach one to ask the right questions, find the right data, find meaning in the data, and then use the data to make and communicate decisions. Workshops are offered every other week.

All science faculty members at Indiana University (all campuses) are invited, on behalf of University Academic Affairs, to the 2019 Indiana University Science Symposium. Registration is free, but limited to the first 120 people. You may register online until noon on September 13, 2019.

This year’s Science Symposium is pleased to welcome guest speaker, Sara Brownell, from Arizona State University. Sara will be presenting on “Assessing Your CURE: A Practical Guide for Instructors of Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences.” See the symposium website for more information and to register.
