Google’s wide array of tools—both the familiar and the cutting edge—can energize your teaching and enhance student learning. On February 27, 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the Idea Garden, Hine Hall, IP106, 875 W. North Street. come and experience these tools firsthand when Google representatives visit IUPUI for the Google Higher Ed Roadshow.
In these sessions, geared toward faculty as well as academic technology staff, you’ll explore new ideas for bringing Google tools into the classroom. You’ll discover how Google can facilitate creative problem solving, collaboration, and communication.
These sessions will cover: • G Suite tools, such as Docs, Drive, Calendar, Chat, Meet, and Jamboard—the new interactive whiteboard from Google • Google Course Kit, which provides a seamless experience across GSuite apps within Canvas • Google’s Virtual Reality (VR) tools like the immersive, 360° Tour Creator and Poly

2019 E.C. Moore Symposium, Friday, March 8

Register for the 2019 E.C. Moore Symposium on Excellence in Teaching scheduled for March 8, 2019. This year’s symposium will feature a keynote address by Dr. Nancy Budwig, professor of psychology at Clark University, Creating a Culture of Integrative Learning to Support Signature Work. The plenary address, Reflect, Refract, Reframe: Thinking about Teaching. Thinking about Our Students will be delivered by Keith Anliker, senior lecturer of chemistry in the School of Science at IUPUI and recipient of the 2018 IUPUI Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
The E.C. Moore Symposium brings the Indiana higher education community together to examine teaching excellence and the instructional strategies employed in various disciplines to encourage student learning. Register Now: Speed Dating with Learning Technologies

Join us for lunch on Friday, March 29, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. as we host a round of "Speed dating with Learning Technologies" in Lecture Hall, 104. Faculty participants will have approximately 10 minutes to "speed date" (i.e., learn about) a specific tool or service before moving to their next "date."
Matchmakers (those presenting each tool/service) include staff from the Center for Teaching and Learning at IUPUI, eLearning Design & Services, the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning, IU Bloomington, UITS Digital Education Programs & Initiatives, and Collaboration Technologies. A few faculty presenters will also discuss tools they're currently using.
This highly-interactive event will give you a chance to gain quick (yet informative) technology overviews, while posing direct questions to staff who represent several teams within Learning Technologies and UITS.
We'll have at least 9 tools and services for you to choose from:

Mapping Your Curriculum to IUPUI+
|
The Profiles of Learning for Undergraduate Success (IUPUI+), our new institutional undergraduate learning outcomes, have replaced the Principles of Undergraduate Learning (PULs) and Principles of Co-Curricular Learning (PCLs). They are written with an active orientation, using student-facing language, and are applicable to all student-facing units. Administrators of all undergraduate programs, and instructors of general education courses and capstone courses, are expected to be among the first to map their learning outcomes to IUPUI+.
In this hands-on workshop, facilitators will provide a brief overview of IUPUI+, share examples of academic and co-curricular programs and courses that already have been mapped, and introduce tools, resources, and processes that participants can use to map their own learning outcomes. Tech Tip: New IU Photo Roster Updates

There are some recent updates to the IU Photo Roster. They're all about increased usability:
- View two sizes of official photos (both larger than the current photos) in SIS courses – or take advantage of the Canvas photo option for non-SIS courses.
- Access the Photo Roster while you're on the go – it's now mobile-friendly.
- Listen to NameCoach recordings of students' names, indicated by the sound icon (just click to play)
- Filter by section and/or role.
- Search by name or username.

This session will show you currently available online tools from the Office of Institutional Research and Decision Support (IRDS) to display information on course enrollment, both in real time and at crucial decision points. Staff from the Registrar’s Office and IRDS will also discuss other resources readily available to help you find the information you need. Those who take part in this session will be able to find and use a variety of resources related to course enrollment that will help you get the information you need for critical decision making. In this webinar, we'll discuss some general principles that can help you prepare for the unexpected and adapt as quickly and smoothly as possible, as well as the various university resources that are available to support you.

As IUPUI begins the process of reviewing general education courses, course coordinators or faculty responsible for preparing course portfolios for review may have questions about the information and materials that need to go into the portfolios. This workshop will provide an overview of the course review process, a review of course portfolio requirements, the process for assembling and submitting the portfolio, and the rubric that will be used to review the course portfolios. Examples from existing course portfolios will be incorporated into the workshop. Questions and discussion will be encouraged.
This workshop is being offered in two formats: in person and online. When you register, you will be prompted to choose how you would like to attend.

Faculty who seek to refine and promote their teaching efforts may document their work through the development of a teaching portfolio, a site where faculty engage in reflective practice to measure the effectiveness of, and to refine, their teaching practices. This webinar introduces faculty to the teaching portfolio and to the several interrelated tasks that yield the teaching portfolio's elements: developing a teaching philosophy, identifying specific teaching practices to explore, document, and to improve, situating identified teaching practices in appropriate context, and collecting and evaluating evidence of teaching and learning.

The definition of the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) has emerged over three decades and embodies a wide range of the work faculty do as well as the measures of success necessary to peer dissemination and review. This rich and complex area of teaching plays a central part in ensuring effective student learning and faculty advancement. In this workshop, participants will analyze workable definitions of SoTL as points of reference for the elements of SoTL (project development, implementation, and assessment of success) that are crucial for pursuing, documenting, and recognizing SoTL achievements. Using these definitions, participants will self-assess their SoTL needs and goals and move on to exploring existing and potential collaborations on how and where SoTL occurs in and has an impact on IUPUI.
This event aligns with the following IUSM Academy of Teaching Scholars program competencies: Assessment Methods and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (A).

• Advancing Learning Through Evidence-Based STEM Teaching Version 2.0 This free online course prepares current and future STEM faculty in evidence based, effective teaching strategies. Participants will learn how to engage students in active learning, help students think like experts in their fields, turn their classrooms into learning communities, and use approaches like flipped classrooms that make it possible to build active and collaborative learning into their classes.
