If you're creating a new fully online course or revising an existing one and will be teaching it in the next academic year, our this Bootcamp may be for you. It's an 8-week intensive, interactive online course where participants work with a cohort of peers to develop their course and experience the perspective of being an online student. Early Career Teaching Academy Applications Due January 14, 2019
|
Most new faculty enter the professoriate with training and support for their research, but few enter with equivalent preparation and support for their teaching. The Early Career Teaching Academy (ECTA) provides a program for faculty members to engage in conversations to develop effective teaching strategies that are situated in their own emerging teaching philosophies. The Academy invites applications from full-time faculty members in their first, second, or third year of teaching at IUPUI, IUPU Columbus, and Indiana University Fort Wayne.
The academy commences with two intensive sessions: one half-day on February 15 (morning), and one full-day session on February 22. Over the course of the next year, attendees are also required to attend four Faculty Learning Community meetings, held typically on Thursday or Friday mornings.

Indiana Digital Learning Summit Call for Proposals
|
On February 8, 2019, the Plater Institute on the Future of Learning and Leap INdiana will present the Indiana Digital Learning Summit. We seek proposals for fast-paced, dynamic 10-minute presentations/demonstrations focused on the use of digital courseware and adaptive learning technologies to enhance student learning and reduce achievement gaps. 2019 E.C. Moore Symposium Save the Date and Call for Proposals
|
The IUPUI Center for Teaching and Learning seeks proposals from faculty teaching at higher education institutions across Indiana for the 2019 E.C. Moore Symposium on Excellence in Teaching. We would especially welcome proposals that address topics such as: efforts to improve student learning and engagement, inclusive excellence, integrative learning, novel general education courses or curricula, creative use of instructional technology, and initiatives that promote excellence in teaching. Proposals should clearly demonstrate relevance to a broad range of disciplines. The 2019 E.C. Moore Symposium will be held on Friday, March 8th at the IUPUI Campus Center.
Proposals will be accepted through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. Click here for more information and to submit a proposal.

CEG Request for Proposals
|
The Curriculum Enhancement Grant (CEG) provides faculty with technical and instructional support, time, and funds to implement projects designed to improve student learning and success at IUPUI, IUPU Columbus, and IUFW. In addition, the grants seek to enhance the conversation about scholarly teaching on campus and increase the practice of the scholarship of teaching and learning. The grant supports a wide range of faculty projects designed to improve student learning and success. See the 2019 Curriculum Enhancement Grant Request for Proposals for more information. The deadline for proposal submissions is Friday, January 25, 2019, 11:59 p.m.

Tech Tip: A New Course Analytics Tool
|
The beta version of a new course analytics tool is now available for you to test drive in any of your courses. Analytics Beta offers improved functionality for tracking student performance using interactive charts and tables. Eventually, Analytics Beta will replace the current analytics tools in Canvas. For now, however, both the old and new tools are available for use in your courses. For instructions on how to use Analytics Beta, see the Analytics Beta User Guide. |

Introduction to GoReact Online Video Feedback Tool

GoReact is a video coaching, assessment, and observation tool that is now available at Indiana University. Faculty can embed time-coded feedback into virtual and face-to-face presentations and observations. This workshop will introduce you to the GoReact tool and how it works in Canvas.
GoReact will allow faculty to:
- provide time-coded feedback for live presentations;
- use video comments to correct pronunciation or vocabulary in foreign language or pitch in performing arts;
- create a feedback loop where student self reflect, receive peer feedback, and instructor feedback all in one place;
- access GoReact directly through Canvas for use with posting grades to the gradebook

Are you responsible for creating a new fully online course or revising an existing one?
Will you be teaching that course in the next academic year?
If you answered "yes" to both of those questions, the Online Course Design and Development Bootcamp may be for you. The Bootcamp is an 8-week intensive, interactive online course offered by the IUPUI Center for Teaching and Learning in the spring and summer sessions. It provides
-
a structured introduction to online course design theory, research, and practice, including visual design, accessibility, usability, and media use and development.
-
weekly assignments where you will create parts of your asynchronous online course and share them with facilitators and peers for feedback and discussion.
-
the experience of being an online student in an interactive, asynchronous, online course.
Participants are expected to make active progress on their course development every week. Previous participants report spending at least 6-7 hours each week working with Bootcamp materials, interacting with other faculty participants, and developing their online course. Course activity occurs throughout the week so you will need to check in regularly.
The Final Project is due the week after the end of the Bootcamp. The Final Project includes a welcoming, usable, and accessible Canvas course site complete with your course structure, student orientation/getting started information, syllabus, and at least 1 week of your course assignments, instruction, and content plus your plan for completing your course development.
Participants who successfully complete the Bootcamp will earn the Designing an Online Course badge from the IUPUI Center for Teaching and Learning. For more information and to register, click here.

This three-session series is designed to train participants to communicate complex scientific topics more effectively to non-experts like patients, learners, lawmakers, and funders.

Universal design for learning (UDL) is an approach to course design and teaching and that focuses on ways to remove or mitigate barriers to student learning. In this Q&A article, Tobin and Behling, authors of a new book on UDL, discuss the motivations behind UDL, its implications for higher education, and their own experiences with faculty who have implemented UDL in their classes.
