Early Career Teaching Academy Applications Due Dec. 15, 2017
|
Most new faculty at large public universities enter the professoriate with training and support to conduct research, but few also enter with equivalent preparation and support for their teaching. The Early Career Teaching Academy provides a setting within which faculty members can find and develop their teaching identity, one that is rooted in evidence-based active learning strategies and high-impact educational practices, and designed to facilitate student success.
The academy convenes in two intensive sessions: one full-day, and one half-day session. These sessions focus on the effective development and assessment of active learning teaching strategies suited to IUPUI’s diverse student body. By the second session, faculty will be able to select teaching strategies they plan to implement, and to articulate how these teaching strategies express their teaching identities.
The next academy will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Friday, February 9, 2018, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Click here for more information and to apply.

Online Course Design and Development Bootcamp

Are you developing a new online course or significantly revising an existing one for summer or fall 2018? Are you new to online course development and teaching or looking for new ideas to improve your and your students’ experience?
The Online Course Design and Development Bootcamp is an 8-week, fully online, interactive course running Jan. 24th - Mar 31st. It allows faculty to experience the perspective of taking an online course while learning about, talking about, and experimenting with approaches to teaching and learning online. Topics include online presence, active learning, content considerations (including content development), course organization, assessment, accessibility, usability. and visual design among others.
During the Bootcamp, participants actively develop their online class, leading to the final project – specific parts of the course complete and ready for students in Canvas. Successful completion of the Bootcamp will earn a “Designing an Online Course” badge from the CTL. Learn more and register today!

2018 Curriculum Enhancement Grant RFP Now Available
|
The Curriculum Enhancement Grant (CEG) provides faculty with technical and instructional support, time, and funds to implement projects designed to improve student learning and success at IUPUI and IUPU Columbus. In addition, the grants seek to enhance the conversation about scholarly teaching on campus and increase the practice of the scholarship of teaching and learning. The grant supports a wide range of faculty projects designed to improve student learning and success. See the 2018 Curriculum Enhancement Grant Request for Proposals for more information. The DEADLINE for proposal submissions is Friday, January 26, 2018.
The information session about the CEG and other IUPUI teaching grants will be held on January 10, 2018.

Have Adobe Presenter or Captivate content on Adobe Connect (connect.iu.edu)?
|
Last winter, UITS announced the retirement of Adobe Connect. This will impact Adobe Presenter and Captivate recordings if you have them stored on the Adobe Connect server. All Adobe Presenter and Adobe Captivate content needs to be moved from the Connect server to a new location soon. More information about the retirement of Adobe Connect and the timeline can be found here: https://kb.iu.edu/d/anxl.
Note: If you are unsure whether you use Adobe Connect, check your Canvas site for links to content that contain “connect.iu.edu/…”.
The Center for Teaching and Learning is offering assistance with migrating Adobe Presenter content and has hired additional staff dedicated to this effort. The QM workshop introduces faculty and staff to the Quality Matters (QM) Rubric and to the QM Process. Quality Matters is a nationally recognized quality assurance organization for online course design, and the QM Process is a faculty-led peer review process that uses the research-based standards (criteria) of the QM Rubric to certify online courses.

IU faculty, staff, and students can use Zoom, a video conferencing and online collaboration tool, to host meetings that anyone can join. In this workshop, we will learn how users access their account, schedule, manage and record meetings, as well as how to use Zoom as an effective conferencing tool.

If you are thinking about developing a new or redesigned course, program, or co-curricular experience, we invite you to attend this workshop on teaching and learning grants available to IUPUI faculty and staff. Eligible projects should represent a substantial time commitment beyond normal responsibilities (e.g., for developing courses, curricula, or out-of-class learning experiences). Past grants, for example, have included support for incorporating high-impact practices into courses, programs, and co-curricular experiences; planning and implementing new pedagogies; and developing or revising online learning experiences. Grants may be made to individuals, teams, or members of a program or department.
Grant opportunities for 2018-2019 at IUPUI include:
- Curriculum Enhancement Grants, offered by the Center for Teaching and Learning ($5,000 to $15,000 awards)
- ePortfolio Grants, offered by the ePortfolio Initiative ($5,000 to $10,000 awards)
- RISE to the IUPUI Challenge Curriculum Development Grants, offered by the RISE program ($2,500 awards)
- RISE to the IUPUI Challenge/ePortfolio Initiative Curriculum Development Grants, offered by the RISE program and the ePortfolio Initiative ($5,000 to $10,000 awards)
At this workshop, participants will learn about each type of grant, eligibility requirements, application procedures, and answers to questions like, “What kinds of projects will the grants fund?” “How long does a project like this take?” “How much funding is available per project?” “What is expected of awardees?” “What will reviewers look for in proposals?” and “What advice do past awardees have for those interested in applying for one of these grants? Time for participant questions and discussion will be built into the session.

Have you ever struggled to find the number of credit hours taught in your school? What about the number of majors in your department or the number of staff in your unit? All this information is readily available to IUPUI faculty and staff if you know where to look! This session will teach about a variety of resources, including IUPUI Data Link, Point-in-Cycle, EAB, and a variety of other reports that provide information right at your fingertips. Participants will also learn how to interpret the information they find and use it for decision making, analysis, and prompt reporting.
This will be a hands-on workshop. Please bring your own devices. Tablets or laptops are ideal.
