E.C. Moore Symposium on Excellence in Teaching

Join faculty from across the state of Indiana in a discussion of teaching and learning at the 2015 E.C. Moore Symposium on Excellence in Teaching in the IUPUI Campus Center. This year's keynote speaker is Dr. Dan Bernstein, Professor of Cognitive Psychology and former Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence at the University of Kansas. His talk is entitled "Building on What They Know: Preparing a Path to Engaged Learning." This year's plenary speaker is Dr. Debora Herold, Senior Lecturer in Psychology at IUPUI. Her talk is entitled "Teaching Them How to Learn." When registering for the symposium, participants can opt to attend one of the faculty-led workshops listed below. The workshops will run from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. (You can change your workshop selection at a later date by cancelling your original event registration, re-registering, and selecting another workshop to attend.)

In this webinar taught by CITL consultant Cordah Robinson and Kim Murday of IT Training, participants will learn about the basics of using the Quizzes tool, including how to create a quiz, specify settings, and add individual questions. Participants will also learn how to use Question Groups to organize and randomize questions, as well as the range of response options for quizzes.

Documenting Your Teaching

This session introduces faculty and graduate students to best practices of documenting one’s teaching. Participants will examine different approaches to capturing evidence of teaching and learning and making the case for teaching achievements. Participants will consider how to track their own evolution as a teacher through student course evaluations, from the peer review of teaching, and ways to measure and track student learning.

Peer Assessment in Canvas

This session will allow participants to experience the peer assessment (peer review) features built into Canvas Assignments. Following an overview of what peer assessment, participants will have the opportunity to complete, then build, a peer assessment activity based upon the principles discussed earlier in this session.

Center for Service and Learning Grants and Scholarships
CSL Dissemination Grants Application Deadline: Through April 2015 or until funding is exhausted.
About: The Center for Service and Learning has designated funds for small dissemination grants between $500 and $750. These grants are available to support faculty and instructional staff in disseminating work associated with civic and community engagement in higher education, particularly work that builds the knowledge base related to service learning pedagogy, community-university partnerships and community-based participatory research/collaborative inquiry.

L'Oreal USA for Women in Science Fellowship Program
The L'Oreal For Women in Science program recognizes and rewards the contributions women make in STEM fields and identifies exceptional women researchers committed to serving as role models for younger generations. More than 2,000 women scientists in over 100 countries have been recognized since the program began in 1998.
The L'Oreal USA For Women In Science fellowship program will award five post- doctoral women scientists in the United States this year with grants of up to $60,000 each. Applicants are welcome from a variety of fields, including the life and physical/material sciences, technology (including computer science), engineering, and mathematics. Completed applications are due no later than March 20, 2015.
