As competition for external funding becomes more challenging, getting one's scholarly work successfully published is more important than ever. Dr. Gopen's approach is based on a single idea: learning to write for the reader allows the writer to control what readers learn.
This year, Dr. George Gopen will present this workshop in a SINGLE DAY format. Participants will register for EITHER Tuesday, July 9 OR Wednesday, July 10. As in past years, Dr. Gopen will also conduct hour-long, individualized consultations. ONLY faculty members who participate in the day-long event will have access to the individual consultation registration. Instructions will be sent to participants after their registration for the workshop is complete.

George D. Gopen is a Duke University Professor of the Practice of Rhetoric. He is also Senior Lecturing Fellow, Department of English and Senior Lecturing Fellow, School of Law. Dr. Gopen received both his J.D. and his Ph.D. in English from Harvard University. He is a pioneer in the mastery of scientific writing, with clients such as the NIH, FDA, Bristol-Myers Squib, Bayer, and Duke University School of Medicine.

CourseNetworking (CN) Symposium

To discover more about the CN (www.thecn.com) and how you can use it to enhance teaching and learning, you are invited to attend the CN Symposium on May 20, 2013 at the CN House (9902 Towne Road, Carmel, Indiana 46032). The symposium will provide an opportunity for discussion among faculty, administrators, and staff from multiple institutions to increase understanding of and share best practices in using CN. There is no charge to attend the symposium.
Concurrent sessions (each running about an hour in length) will be held from 12:30 p.m. – 5:15 p.m., and will include presentations, discussions and demonstrations. A reception and dinner will follow the sessions.
All faculty, administrators and staff of Indiana University are invited to attend. Faculty who are engaged in utilizing the CN, including those from IU and other institutions, will be on hand to share their ideas as well as participate in and lead sessions. Attendees are welcome to come and go as needed, or just attend the reception and dinner at 5:30 p.m. or later.
Session topics will include: • CN 101 • CN as a learning management system, in a competency-based learning environment • CN as a complement to Oncourse • CN concepts and big-picture thinking • Social pedagogies • IU online initiative and directions (iuonline.edu) • Best practices of MOOCs • What should CN be? You tell us! • FERPA, copyright, and intellectual property in an open learning environment
