In partnership with the IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law and the IUPUI Office for Women, this year's CTL Lecture Series speaker is Professor, Provost and Executive Vice President of Indiana University, Bloomington, Lauren K. Robel. As a past president of the Association of American Law Schools, Provost Robel will speak in part about the pedagogical challenges and teaching practices law schools face. A reception will precede the lecture from 5:30 - 6 p.m., the lecture is 6 - 7:30 p.m. There will be time for a question and answer session.

Request for Proposals
The IU Office of Online Education will fund Special Focus Curriculum Enhancement Grants (SF-CEG) in Support of IU Online. The purpose of the grant initiative is to provide faculty with support, time, and resources to develop online courses or programs designed to improve student learning and success at IUPUI and IUPU Columbus. A particular priority is for proposals emphasizing graduate and professional level offerings. Proposal submission deadline is April 12, 2013.Click here for the guidelines and application.

Most importantly, how do you fit it all in? In this session, you will learn the basics of planning a learning unit, while avoiding common pitfalls along the way. This webinar is part of the Center for Teaching and Learning’s online workshop series, Teaching@IUPUI. Tailored for faculty new to IUPUI, each online workshop serves as a forum to learn new strategies and hone teaching practices. Grounded in current research, these workshops address various teaching topics and provide participants with strategies that can make instruction more effective and efficient as well as introduce participants to teaching and learning resources available on campus.

IUanyWare, IU Box, and your Courses: Productivity, Efficiency, and Quality

This is part one a two-part exploration of two IU-provided cloud services (IUanyWare and IU Box) and how these services can be used to support instruction and learning. Part one introduces the concepts of cloud computing and cloud-based storage, and looks at potential applications of IUanyWare and IU Box to your courses. Specifically, in this part we will focus on how these tools can impact the productivity, efficiency and quality of instruction and learning.

Creating an Honors Contract with Your Student

Many IUPUI faculty members work with Honors College students to make it possible to earn honors credit for courses. In this interactive workshop, participants will discuss and reflect on how to assist students in creating effective projects through identifying specific goals and outcomes for honors contracts. A faculty panel will discuss their experiences with honors contracts and share their advice for creating a successful faculty and student experience.
Honors College students will also talk about their needs and concerns when working through the process and completing contracts. Finally Honors College staff will provide resources such as examples of completed honors contracts which meet the goals we want our students to achieve by engaging in the honors contract experience. Assessment of students' work will also be discussed.

The Office of Academic Affairs invites you to attend the 2013 Plater Institute Monday, April 22.
This year’s event is entitled “Integrative Learning: Translating Theory into Practice” and features keynote speaker Dr. Mary Taylor Huber, director of the Carnegie Foundation’s role in the U.S. Professors of the Year program and advisor to the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Dr. Huber has written extensively on cultures of teaching in higher education, integrative learning, and faculty roles and rewards.
Recent books which Dr. Huber has authored include: Balancing Acts: The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Academic Careers (2004); The Advancement of Learning: Building the Teaching Commons (2005); and The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Reconsidered: Institutional Integration and Impact (2011).

Third Annual Critical Thinking Symposium with speaker Stephen Brookfield
