Oncourse Assignments Tool

During this online session, participants will learn how to use the Oncourse assignments tool to post, collect and grade assignments with ease.
This workshop will be held online using Adobe Connect. You will need working speakers to hear the presenter. It is strongly recommended that you have a high-speed Internet connection to participate in this session. Registered participants will receive an email with instructions for viewing and a link to the Adobe Connect meeting room a day or two before the event.

Delivering Engaging Lectures with Clickers

This workshop will describe how Instructors can employ Student Response Systems (SRS) such as clickers to both promote active learning and gain critical feedback about student learning. Participants will have the opportunity to hear IUPUI Physics Professor, Andy Gavrin discuss how clickers are integrated into his teaching.

This session is part of the First Wednesday Brown Bag Series, which is designed to provide faculty with a forum to discuss common teaching challenges and to consider constructive, evidence-based solutions to those challenges. Electronic portfolio adoption is becoming mainstream, emerging as a field of practice with theoretical underpinnings and scholarly research. This workshop will introduce recognized elements of “folio [ePortfolio] thinking” in the context of university teaching and learning. Participants will discuss the ways ePortfolios are well suited to support and enhance engaged learning practices, general education outcomes, and integrative learning across disciplines and learning contexts. You’ll also learn about IU and IUPUI ePortfolio initiatives and about resources available to support your work with ePortfolios.

Participants will learn how to create question pools, import questions in bulk from text documents, import tests from the old Oncourse test tool, reduce the risk of academic dishonesty and more using the new Test tool. This is a hands-on workshop and participants are encouraged to bring digital versions of or have access to their existing assessments for experimentation.

An ePortfolio for the Professional School Counselor's Program

Yvonne Larrier, Assistant Professor, IUSB Counseling & Human Services, will share her experiences implementing an ePortfolio project for the ePortfolios @ IU webinar series. A newcomer to the portfolio tools in Oncourse, Dr. Larrier embarked upon a bold undertaking during the Fall of 2012 as she rolled out a very ambitious ePortfolio project for the Professional School Counselor’s program. Students use the portfolio tools in Oncourse to collect artifacts/examples of their course work and other experiences. While reflecting on the learning resulting from these experiences, they begin the development of a showcase portfolio that will be complete at the end of this 2-year cohort program. Dr. Larrier also plans to use the ePortfolio tools to guide the program-level assessment process. The development and implementation of the ePortfolio matrices and presentation template, rubrics used to assess artifacts, and lessons learned will be shared.

Dr. Jamie Washington is a nationally known speaker and leader in higher education. He will be working with participants to identify ways to bring a more diverse perspective to their curriculum.
