ePortfolios can serve a variety of pedagogical purposes. Among these are assessment, improvement, and accountability, whether at the project, course, program, or institutional level. Since “assessment” carries so many connotations, this session will examine how these varied meanings take form in the context of ePortfolio practice. Participants will review ways in which ePortfolios can support rubric-based assessment of learning outcomes, particularly important in assessment to support disciplinary accreditation, and explore the challenges of assessing an ePortfolio as a unified composition, a whole greater than the sum of its parts.
