This workshop is designed for novice to intermediate Oncourse users.
Designed to have you up and running quickly with Oncourse, this workshop will focus on the most commonly used tools in Oncourse. Participants will have the opportunity to work with the following tools: course email, syllabus, resources, announcements and gradebook. Bring a digital copy of your syllabus to get the most out of this session.
This workshop will be held online using Adobe Connect. You will need working speakers to hear the presenter. It is strongly recommended that you have a high-speed Internet connection to participate in this session. Registered participants will receive an email with instructions for viewing and a link to the Adobe Connect meeting room a day or two before the event.

One of the best ways to display a syllabus in Oncourse is to convert it to a PDF, upload and link it to the syllabus tool. This workshop will show you the steps necessary to achieve this goal.

eText/Courseload Overview

This workshop will be a feature demonstration and tutorial of the Courseload software and how it integrates with Oncourse to offer eText access to students. Furthermore, this workshop will emphasize the benefits of using eTexts such as in-text highlighting and annotating, the ability to search across those highlights/annotations (and choose individuals and groups who can view them), pose and respond to specific questions linked directly to specific sections of texts and also view learner analytic data about student activity within the eText.

CourseNetworking Overview

This webinar will provide a discussion and demonstration of how CourseNetworking, or the CN, can be used in your courses. This includes a presentation and discussion of pedagogy and how this new social networking tool can benefit learning and increase student engagement in a new, entertaining social network. Real-life examples will be discussed and will conclude with Q & A. The webinar will be moderated by Ali Jafari, professor of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI campus.
CourseNetworking beta, or the CN, is an academic social networking site that connects teachers and students from IU with others around the world based on shared interests and class subjects. The CN complements learning management systems such as Oncourse by providing new learning outcomes outside the classroom. CourseNetworking was created by Ali Jafari, IUPUI professor of computer and information technology at the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology.

Scientific Writing from the Reader’s Perspective

As competition for external funding becomes more challenging, getting one's scholarly work successfully published is more important than ever. Dr. George Gopen's approach is based on a single idea: learning to write for the reader allows the writer to control what readers learn.
This year, Dr. Gopen will present this workshop in a new format on Wednesday, September 12. More about Dr. Gopen’s original approach to scientific writing can be found in his article,The Science of Scientific Writing.
About the speaker: Dr. George D. Gopen is a Duke University Professor of the Practice of Rhetoric. Professor Gopen received both his J.D. and his Ph.D. in English from Harvard University.
Dr. Gopen is a pioneer in the mastery of scientific writing. His scientific clients have included the NIH, the FDA, Bristol-Myers Squib, Bayer, and Duke University School of Medicine.
This event is sponsored by the IU School of Medicine Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development, the Department of Emergency Medicine, the IUPUI Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and the IUPUI Center for Teaching and Learning.

for the 2012 Advancing Learning with Technology Symposium (ALT) which will take place on
Friday, November 9, 2012 from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. We hope you will consider submitting a proposal, and we encourage you to share this invitation and information with your colleagues.
Proposals are due on Friday, September 14, 2012.
The ALT Symposium brings the higher education community together to examine and showcase instructional technology strategies that impact learning across a variety of disciplines. The program will include 50-minute breakout sessions (possible formats include panel and roundtable discussions, lecture-discussion, interactive workshops, etc.) and poster presentations. Proposals that include graduate students or involve student presenters are welcome.

The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (CTLA) is pleased to present our fourth IU Kokomo Faculty Conference this fall. Resident and Adjunct Indiana University Faculty will share their innovative teaching ideas for promoting student learning and engagement in their classes. This event presents and celebrates some of the important work in teaching that IU faculty members are engaged in. Registration is open for the fall IU Kokomo Faculty Conference! Hear about the examples of academic excellence used by Indiana University faculty from multiple campuses. Registration deadline is Monday, August 27 at noon.
