The IUPUI Center for Teaching and Learning seeks proposals from faculty teaching at higher education institutions across Indiana for the 2021 E.C. Moore Symposium on Excellence in Teaching. We would especially welcome proposals that address topics such as: efforts to improve student learning and engagement, inclusive excellence, integrative learning, novel general education courses or curricula, creative use of instructional technology, and initiatives that promote excellence in teaching. Proposals should clearly demonstrate relevance to a broad range of disciplines. The 2021 E.C. Moore Symposium will be held on Friday, March 5th on Zoom.

IU’s Teaching for Student Success: An Evidence-Based Approach (TSS) series was developed in direct response to President McRobbie’s charge to “translate IU’s educational commitment, investment, and research into pervasive teaching excellence.” These faculty professional development modules, grounded in empirical research and focused on assessment, the science of learning, and other topics, align well with an emphasis on documenting excellence in teaching/learning. The modules are designed so that you can work through them independently or along with a group. Over 1000 faculty across IU have registered for these modules!
The Center for Teaching and Learning invites you to participate in a Teaching for Student Success Faculty Learning Community (TSS FLC) to go through these modules with a community of your peers. The TSS FLC will be facilitated by Lamia Scherzinger, lecturer, Department of Kinesiology, School of Health and Human Sciences. Scherzinger completed the modules during the 2019-2020 academic year and is currently serving as an IUPUI FACET Faculty Fellow for the TSS modules. Participants in this FLC will work through all six modules, share ideas, and draft artifacts. Each module will take approximately one hour to complete, not including time spent on developing the artifact or time spent in meetings. All work will be done in the TSS Canvas module site. Meetings will be held on Zoom.
Eligibility: This professional development opportunity is open to full-time and part-time faculty from IUPUI, IUPUC, and IU Fort Wayne. Each FLC will be limited to ten participants
Upon completion of the TSS FLC and having developed a course map or other artifact utilizing lessons learned from the modules, each participant will:
- Earn a certificate for completing the TSS modules.
- Receive $100 in professional development funds.
Two TSS FLCs will be held. TSS FLC#1 will begin in December 2020 and continue through February 2021. TSS FLC#2 will begin in February 2021 and continue through April 2021.
TSS FLC#1 will meet via Zoom from 9 – 11 a.m. on the following dates:
- Friday, December 4
- Friday, January 8
- Friday, January 29
- Friday, February 19

This workshop introduces faculty and staff to the Quality Matters (QM) Rubric and to the QM Process. Quality Matters is a nationally recognized quality assurance organization for online course design, and the QM Process is a faculty-led peer review process that uses the research-based standards (criteria) of the QM Rubric to certify online courses. Eventually, many online courses within the IU system will undergo the QM Process with the goal of achieving national QM recognition. Faculty may also use the QM Rubric as a guide to design online courses. And, for faculty who are interested, this course serves as a pre-requisite for QM's Peer Reviewer Course, which is a required course for faculty who seek certification as a QM Peer Reviewer, allowing them to participate in QM course reviews for courses created here at IU and at other universities.
The workshop is offered at IUPUI as a one-day synchronous Zoom workshop from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.with a one hour break for lunch. To receive the QM certificate of completion for this workshop, participants must be present for and participate in the entire workshop.

It will also address the option for preparing a simplified course dossier based on using a Mile Marker assignment. Examples from existing course dossiers will be incorporated into the webinar.
