Feeling anxious about preparing your fall courses in a new format? The Just-in-Time Course Design: A Faculty Learning Experience is a badged professional development opportunity for faculty interested in learning more about teaching online, in-person with physical distancing, or a mix of online and in-person as they prepare for Fall 2020. Participants will select from a variety of learning experiences which will be completed independently and include activities such as live and recorded webinars, online resources, readings, and application assignments in a Canvas site. Application assignments will require creating materials for their own courses and completing a reflection on their work.
IUPUI, IUPUC, and IU Fort Wayne instructors interested in earning the Just-in-Time Course Design Badge and the associated $500 professional development funds are eligible to register for the experience. Participants may work through the learning experience at their own pace, but they must submit all materials by August 31, 2020. Click here to learn more and register for the experience.

Critical Reflection is a key tenet of all High Impact Practices that, when designed well, allows students to make meaning of their experiences in light of particular frames of reference (e.g., a course concept, disciplinary knowledge, skill, or value). This process not only helps students deepen their knowledge but also provides an opportunity to document their learning. In our time together, we will discuss key design principles and a helpful reflective framework, offer tips on designing reflection for distance-learning, and provide you with a helpful way to utilize reflection products as a means of learning assessment.
This session is part of the Tips and Strategies to Promote Student Learning and Engagement During COVID-19 Professional Development Series sponsored by the Institute for Engaged Learning, IUPUI.

A syllabus is often the first impression that students form of a course, and it serves both faculty and student as a guide to and contract for the semester. A well-designed and personalized syllabus can help faculty set the proper tone while simultaneously helping them avoid having to repeatedly answer basic student questions about expectations, policies, and deadlines. This webinar will offer tips and considerations for effective syllabus design and show examples of syllabi from various disciplines in face-to-face and online classes.

This workshop introduces faculty and staff to the Quality Matters (QM) Rubric and to the QM Process. Quality Matters is a nationally recognized quality assurance organization for online course design, and the QM Process is a faculty-led peer review process that uses the research-based standards (criteria) of the QM Rubric to certify online courses. Eventually, many online courses within the IU system will undergo the QM Process with the goal of achieving national QM recognition. Faculty may also use the QM Rubric as a guide to design online courses. And, for faculty who are interested, this course serves as a pre-requisite for QM's Peer Reviewer Course, which is a required course for faculty who seek certification as a QM Peer Reviewer, allowing them to participate in QM course reviews for courses created here at IU and at other universities.
The workshop is offered at IUPUI as a one-day synchronous Zoom workshop from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.with a one hour break for lunch. To receive the QM certificate of completion for this workshop, participants must be present for and participate in the entire workshop.
