Project Title: An Open Textbook for Heat and Mass Transfer
Funding Level: $4,000
Abstract:
Traditional textbooks in engineering courses are expensive. One way to decrease textbook cost is to use open educational resources, which are materials licensed in a way that allow everyone to engage in the “5R activities”: retain, reuse, revise, remix and redistribute. The purpose of this project is to create an open textbook for ME 31400 Heat and Mass Transfer, a required course in the undergraduate mechanical engineering program. The textbook will be aligned with the course outcomes, and students will be able to obtain the textbook for no cost, ensuring that all students have access to the textbook from the first day of the course. The goals of this project are to reduce the cost of required course materials and improve student course performance.
