The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at IU Indianapolis invites faculty to join the spring 2026—fall 2026 Faculty Learning Community (FLC) cohort, an initiative designed to help students connect classroom learning to career readiness. Faculty in the FLC will collaborate with support from Faculty Fellow Carrie Sickmann and the CTL to amplify career competencies in their fall 2026 courses. All FLC members will receive a $1,000 stipend and participate in one in-person workshop and two virtual seminars in spring 2026. The FLC will help instructors design learning experiences that make students’ knowledge and skills more visible as professional competencies.

Hearing Student Evaluations in a New Way
What if your end-of-course evaluations could feel more like a conversation about growth? In the Faculty Focus piece “Hearing Your Student Evaluations Differently?”, instructional designer Todd Conaway shares how he experimented with generative AI tools (like NotebookLM) to transform traditional student feedback into narrated podcasts and even a light-hearted song. The result? The feedback becomes more personal, reflective, and actionable—shifting the tone from judgment to opportunity. Through this creative reframe, Conaway found that what was once a stack of dry survey data began to feel like a catalyst for course improvements and deeper teaching insight. This article is a refreshing reminder: sometimes, how we listen matters just as much as what we hear.
