As IUPUI begins the process of reviewing general education courses over the coming academic year, faculty who teach these courses, especially course coordinators, may have questions about how to assemble the information and materials needed for the course review portfolio. This session will address frequently asked questions about the general education review process, with time allotted for questions and discussion.

Have you ever had the experience of reading your end-of-semester student evaluations and found yourself surprised by the comments? Perhaps a student made a suggestion that you agree would be an improvement to the course. Or maybe a student was critical of something and you wish you could have explained the pedagogical reasoning behind your course design. Although end-of-semester feedback can be helpful for making adjustments for future semesters, it is too late to make changes that will impact the students who actually provided the feedback. This webinar will focus on obtaining mid-semester feedback from students. We will discuss different ways to request feedback and how to respond to it once you receive it. This showcase will feature Dr. Debora Herold, Department of Psychology, School of Science.

This webinar is part of the Center for Teaching and Learning's new Faculty Teaching Showcase Webinar Series, a venue for faculty to share their teaching practices with one another. Designed to inspire, inform and give faculty the confidence to try new teaching strategies, each interactive webinar features a conversation with a faculty member about how they implemented a successful teaching technique. Each webinar will be 30 minutes long with an optional 15-minute follow-up discussion period.

This workshop introduces graduate students to the practice of documenting one's teaching, the practice of articulating and supporting claims for the effectiveness of one's teaching. Participants will be introduced to different types of evidence of teaching and learning, and to approaches to capture this evidence in order to make the case for teaching achievements.

NOTE: This is a required workshop for the CIRTL at IUPUI Practitioner-level requirements.

In this workshop, participants will learn about the new online conference tool at Indiana University called Zoom. Zoom is a conference tool that focuses on collaboration between users through audio/video communication, file sharing, and screen sharing. IU faculty, staff, and students are all eligible to create their own Zoom meeting room to host meetings. In this workshop, we will learn how users access their account, schedule and manage meetings, as well as how to use Zoom as an effective conferencing tool.

This webinar will introduce Zoom and its features to regular users of Adobe Connect for online meetings. Learn how to set up and manage your Zoom room, schedule and record meetings, manage audio and video, and collaborate with others via chat, screen sharing, and breakout rooms.

Have you considered using group work to make your large classes more engaging and interactive, but wondered how you would manage the logistics and structure the activities? Although lecturing seems an effective mode to deliver content to a large group of learners, it can lead to issues with classroom management and student motivation and engagement. Collaborative learning is a popular active learning technique shown to improve student learning and motivation. But, designing, implementing, and assessing the outcomes of collaborative learning in the context of a large class can feel exceptionally challenging.

In this faculty teaching showcase, we will engage in a conversation with Jennifer Nelson from the Department of Earth Sciences to learn more about how she has successfully used collaborative learning models in large intro-level classes. She will discuss her process of creating an active, group work-based large class session with examples of well-structured and incentivized class-preparation techniques and in-class activities that motivate students and trigger their higher-order thinking.  Each webinar will be 30 minutes long with an optional 15-minute follow-up discussion period.

Examity is one of the online test proctoring services currently being piloted at Indiana University. On Thursday, March 30th, representatives from Examity will be on campus to meet with faculty, answer questions, hear concerns, and gather feedback. If you have been using either ProctorU or Examity, or if you would simply like to learn more about online proctoring at IU, please join us. Refreshments will be served.

CN Post is a plug-in tool available in each IU Canvas course. It is a good complement to Canvas and an alternative to the default Canvas discussion board. Invented at IU, CN Post helps enhance student communication and engagement through social, global and game-like learning. User feedback shows students prefer having online discussions in CN Post rather than in traditional discussion forums (here's what this student has to say: https://youtu.be/2ynZczZT_ps). This webinar will introduce unique features in CN Post and offer practical tips for easy implementation both in online and in hybrid courses.

• Tips and best practices of using CN Post to enhance student communication and engagement

In this webinar, you'll get to know more about the many advanced features that Zoom makes available to customize your meeting experience. Add a profile picture for when you aren't using a webcam. Learn how to change settings to automatically record meetings, control how your screen is shared, and manage your participants.

This workshop introduces faculty and staff to the Quality Matters (QM) Rubric and to the QM Process. Quality Matters is a nationally recognized quality assurance organization for online course design, and the QM Process is a faculty-led peer review process that uses the research-based standards (criteria) of the QM Rubric to certify online courses. Eventually, many online courses within the IU system will undergo the QM Process with the goal of achieving national QM recognition. Faculty may also use the QM Rubric as a guide to design online courses. And for faculty who are interested, this course serves as a pre-requisite for QM's Peer Reviewer Course, which is a required course for faculty who seek certification as a QM Peer Reviewer, allowing them to participate in QM course reviews for courses created here at IU and at other universities.

The workshop will be offered as an in-person workshop at IUPUI on Friday, April 14th, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in University Library, UL 1130, with a one hour break for lunch. Participants are free to bring their own lunch or to take advantage of the many options available on campus. To receive the QM certificate of completion for this workshop, participants must be present for and participate in the entire workshop.
