Part-time faculty, whether new or returning, are invited to attend the Associate Faculty Forum, a professional development opportunity designed to support their teaching role at IUPUI. At this multi-faceted event, workshops will introduce faculty to new teaching methods and techniques and to ways of using technology in the classroom and online. Concurrent session tracks will include topics for new and experienced instructors, with hands-on activities to prepare attendees for a successful fall semester. This session will help instructors convert their course- and unit-level learning goals into effective student learning outcomes, a practice that organizes both instruction and learning. In this workshop, participants will learn to identify the characteristics of an effective student learning outcome, analyze examples of student learning outcomes, and write their own. Questions and discussion will be encouraged.

This introductory Canvas session is specifically designed to meet the different roles and needs of graduate students in teaching roles – teaching assistants, associate instructors, graders, and others. It is also part of our Educational Training for Teaching Associates (ETTA) program for graduate students in instructional roles. If you have questions about this particular session, please email Lauren Easterling at easterli@iupui.edu.
In this introductory session participants will have the opportunity to take a first-hand look at the Canvas learning management system through the lens of a graduate student in an instructional role. During this hands-on workshop participants will explore and work with the following:
- Canvas navigation
- Messaging and Notifications in Canvas
- Maintaining course assignments, quizzes, and discussions
- Grading and gradebooks in Canvas
- Canvas troubleshooting and help resources

Moore Symposium brings the Indiana higher education community together to examine teaching excellence and the instructional strategies employed in various disciplines to encourage student learning. The IUPUI Center for Teaching and Learning seeks proposals that address efforts to improve student learning and engagement, evidence-based practices in teaching, the scholarship of teaching and learning, the innovative use of instructional technology, and initiatives that promote excellence in teaching.
