For some of you, your role may be one of support. Your primary responsibilities may include any of the following: grading student work, answering questions outside of class as a tutor or in office hours, or assisting faculty in a class or lecture through working with individual or groups of students. If you are in more of this role, it will help you to know what is addressed in this section, and it will make you better at what you do, though many of the tasks described will not be the majority of what you do. But, understanding and growing in your ability as a teacher will help you as you work with students, and will be valuable to you in your present and future positions.
For others, you may be a lab instructor or the primary instructor of a course. You are either a primary contact, or the primary contact that students have in a class. The level of control that you may have over content or how the course is taught may be minimal, or it may be high, and regardless of the level of control you will want to work with your faculty supervisors as you shape the parts of the class that are yours to shape. Regardless, in this type of role you are a key player in the success and learning of your students.
