This 6-week, online faculty development course provides participants with the knowledge and skills to put together a quality online course. The course is an interactive online class built around regular weekly discussions and assignments on which each participant will receive feedback both from facilitators and from peers. It provides an opportunity to experience the student perspective of taking an online course and the insights that come with it. We will explore not only the differences between online and in-person courses and the parts of course design (including learning outcomes, assessments, activities, and content), but also visual design, accessibility, usability, and media use and development. It includes aspects of the Quality Matters rubric and is a good starting point if you are interested in developing a course for Quality Matters review.

The course is designed to assist participants in developing the structure of their course and one completed course module including assessments, activities, and content. Successful completion of assignments and the final project will earn a Designing an Online Course badge from the IUPUI Center for Teaching and Learning.

The IUPUI Center for Teaching and Learning and the Graduate Office invite applications from IUPUI graduate students to the fill the position of CIRTL Graduate Teaching Assistant to assist in developing and implementing teaching-related professional development programming for graduate students and postdocs at CIRTL @ IUPUI. The Mosaic Faculty Fellows program provides an opportunity, over the course of a full academic year, for faculty to engage in active learning practices in their own teaching and with other Mosaic Fellows, as well as contribute towards the development of learning spaces across Indiana University. After a university-wide pilot, Top Hat has been selected as Indiana University's new student response system. TurningPoint Cloud will continue to be available for spring and summer terms, but will no longer be supported in fall 2017.  

Top Hat is an interactive, cloud-based teaching platform, which enables professors to actively engage students inside and outside the classroom with compelling content, tools and activities.  

Top Hat will be hosting a launch party with food and beverages provided. Drop in anytime to chat with the Top Hat representatives and enjoy refreshments.

If you need a collaborative space for your group or project, consider a Google@IU groupspace. Google@IU groupspace is a collaborative online environment that combines a Google site with a Google group and calendar. The groupspace site has tools and features to facilitate communication and collaboration. This webinar will help you customize your Google at IU groupspace site, group, and calendar to suit the specific needs of your group.

As IUPUI begins the process of reviewing general education courses over the coming academic year, faculty who teach these courses will want to ensure that they are prepared to assemble a course portfolio for the review of their course. This workshop will review the process of aligning course student learning outcomes with IUPUI General Education Competency Domains, statewide competency domains and learning outcomes, and of designing and assessing assignments in alignment with those outcomes. It also will examine the rubric that will be used to review general education courses, the information and documents needed for the review, and the process for assembling a course portfolio. Finally, two examples of course portfolios that have been put together to pilot the review process will be shown and discussed.

VoiceThread is a tool for enhancing student engagement in online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses. With VoiceThread, instructors and/or students can create, share, and comment on a variety of file formats included PowerPoint, videos, and other types of media.

In this webinar the basic features of VoiceThread will be demonstrated. Participants will learn how VoiceThread works within Canvas and will have the opportunity to review a variety of examples from actual courses. Come learn how VoiceThread can be utilized to support student engagement with course content. This workshop introduces faculty and staff to the Quality Matters (QM) Rubric and to the QM Process. Quality Matters is a nationally recognized quality assurance organization for online course design, and the QM Process is a faculty-led peer review process that uses the research-based standards (criteria)  of the QM Rubric to certify online courses. Eventually, many online courses within the IU system will undergo the QM Process with the goal of achieving national QM recognition. Faculty may also use the QM Rubric as a guide to design online courses. And, for faculty who are interested, this course serves as a pre-requisite for QM's Peer Reviewer Course, which is a required course for faculty who seek certification as a QM Peer Reviewer, allowing them to participate in QM course reviews for courses created here at IU and at other universities.

The workshop will be offered as an in-person workshop at IUPUI on Thursday, May 18th, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in University Library, UL 1130, with a one hour break for lunch. Participants are free to bring their own lunch or to take advantage of the many options available on campus. To receive the QM certificate of completion for this workshop, participants must be present for and participate in the entire workshop.

Founded in 1989 as a statewide directive, the Faculty Academy on Excellence in Teaching (FACET) values and supports innovation, critical reflection, and the scholarship of teaching and learning throughout the Indiana University system. While applications are not due until mid-October, it is not too early to think about and prepare for the application process. Many faculty have questions about what FACET does, the benefits of being a member, and whether FACET is a good fit for them. The 9th Annual, Connecting Campuses with Communities Conference will be held Monday, May 15th through Friday, May 19th, 2017. Featured Facilitators will be Dr. Patrick, Director, Center for Experiential Learning at Loyola University, Chicago, and Dr. Julie Hatcher, Executive Director, Center for Service and Learning, IUPUI.

The Call for Proposals for the 2nd IU Online Conference is now open. IU Online is seeking proposals from IU faculty and staff from across the state who
