Electronic portfolio adoption is becoming mainstream, emerging as a field of practice with theoretical underpinnings and scholarly research. This workshop will introduce recognized elements of “folio [ePortfolio] thinking” in the context of university teaching and learning. Participants will discuss the ways ePortfolios are well suited to support and enhance engaged learning practices, general education outcomes, and integrative learning across disciplines and learning contexts. You’ll also learn about IU and IUPUI ePortfolio initiatives and about resources available to support your work with ePortfolios.

Discover how to deliver rich online assessments with the new Oncourse Testing tool. Participants will learn how to create question pools, import questions in bulk from text documents, import tests from the old Oncourse test tool, reduce the risk of academic dishonesty and more using the new Test tool. This is a hands-on workshop and participants are encouraged to bring digital versions of or have access to their existing assessments for experimentation.

Effective Information Graphics

Part 1 of this series will investigate how data is visually perceived and understood. Participants will learn research-based methods for communicating graphical information clearly. By the end, participants will be able to recognize the differences between interesting images and informative graphics. Attendees are encouraged but not required to bring a dataset for use during the series.

Part 2 of this series will have participants turning data sets into to effective information graphics. Inkscape, a free vector graphics program, will serve as the primary software tool in this session. Attendees should have basic familiarity with graphic creation tools. During the workshop, participants will produce informational graphics for different purposes. Attendees are encouraged but not required to bring a dataset for use during the series.

The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) has been defined as “systematic reflection on teaching and learning made public.” This workshop will focus on the variety of venues available to faculty wishing to contribute to the scholarship of teaching and learning, including journals, professional organizations, and conferences devoted to SoTL concerns. It also will address how to find prior work related to your SoTL idea, both in general and discipline-specific resources, thus enabling you to ground your work in the literature. Attendees will learn about the growing community of SoTL scholars and how to contribute research to this growing academic field.

Dr. Jamie Washington is a nationally known speaker and leader in higher education. He will be working with participants to identify ways to bring a more diverse perspective to their curriculum. This event is open to all faculty and staff of IUPUI. Information Literacy Workshop

Anne E. Zald is the Head of the Instruction Department, University Libraries at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where efforts to embed information literacy learning across the curriculum are her primary responsibility.
Currently serving as the Head of Educational Initiatives at the University of Nevada Las Vegas Libraries, Anne's experience over the last 30 years includes coordinating instruction and the creation of new courses, developing outreach projects and expanding educational roles for academic librarians, and providing professional development on pedagogy, assessment, and curricular integration of information literacy. She has been a faculty member for the Institute of Information Literacy for the Association of College and Research Libraries since 1999, where Anne's work with librarians and library administrators have helped to shape information literacy, instruction, and assessment projects and initiatives in institutions around the country. Her position as the Information Literacy Coordinator and lecturer at the University of Washington included a statewide task-force created to assess the information and technology literacy of baccalaureate degree recipients of the public four-year institutions. She has also served on the AAC&U VALUE Information Literacy Rubric team, as well as in librarian positions with Wayne State, Oberlin College, and the University of Michigan.

IUPUI Adobe Day Faculty Focus Panel

Each year IUPUI celebrates Adobe Day. This event is full of activities designed to encourage faculty, staff and students to take advantage of freely available Adobe software titles. The Center for Teaching and Learning participates in Adobe Day, namely, by hosting a faculty focus session. This session highlights Adobe software that assist faculty make the most of their work.
This year, come hear three dynamic panelists from our IUPUI community talk about how they use Adobe products to support their work in and out of the classroom. There will be a question and answer time after the panelists have provided an overview of their work.
Professor Brian Krohn (Tourism, Convention and Event Management) will highlight his approach to teaching online using Captivate and Adobe Connect’s training and curriculum components. In particular, he will discuss how Captivate can be used in to promote learning through self-assessment with directed feedback and added engagement; and how Captivate and Connect training together can manage learner progress.
Professor Mary Ann Frank (Design and Communication Technology) will show how the PDF Portfolio utility within Adobe Acrobat Pro provides a convenient method for organizing and distributing a collection of documentation. Furthermore, she will demonstrate how to create and maintain a dossier package for promotion and tenure requirements using Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Andrew Headrick is the Super Leader for Chemistry's cyber Peer-Led Team Learning (cPLTL) implementation. Andrew will discuss how Adobe Connect, with careful use of microphones, web and document cams can be used within the Adobe Connect web conferencing environment to promote deeper learning.
Attendees have the choice of attending either in person in Campus Center room 148 or online via Adobe Connect. At light lunch will be provided for face-to-face attendees. See below for registration options.

Adobe Days is a time to recognize creative uses of Adobe products at all of IU’s campuses. We are seeking nominations for faculty, staff and students to exhibit their work at Adobe Days. The only requirement is the creative or innovative use of Adobe software for the project. Examples of topic areas for submissions include, but are not limited to
· Web development
· Printed publications
· Tablet publications
· Mobile applications
· Online learning or collaboration
· Instructional materials
· Productivity & Administration
· Posters & Presentations
· Video & Audio
· Photography
· Figures & Illustrations
We prefer to have a representative available to present the work during the Adobe Days event; however, we can display the nominee’s work even if he/she cannot attend.
Each nomination should include a brief description of the project, the preferred campus(es) for participation and contact information for the presenter. You may recommend yourself, multiple people or projects.
