	Teaching@IUPUI: Syllabus and First Day of Class Thursday, August 9, 2012 \| Online - Adobe Connect Meeting Room \| 12 - 1 p.m. Register» \| Organizer: Sarah Lang \| Presenter: Jennifer Beasley We are all familiar with the basics needed in a classroom: a syllabus, a schedule, ice-breakers, etc. But how do you make that great first impression? The activities you choose for the first day of class and an effective and successful syllabus help set students’ expectations for the entire semester. This session will focus on some of the basics that are so important to get your classroom off to a great start and provide resources for first day of class activities and language to include in your syllabus. This webinar is part of the Center for Teaching and Learning’s online workshop series, Teaching@IUPUI. Tailored for faculty new to IUPUI, each online workshop serves as a forum to learn new strategies and hone teaching practices. Grounded in current research, these workshops address various teaching topics and provide participants with strategies that can make instruction more effective and efficient as well as introduce participants to teaching and learning resources available on campus. 	Oncourse Essentials Monday, August 13, 2012 \| Online - Adobe Connect Meeting Room \| 2 - 3:30 p.m. Register» \| Organizer & Presenter: Mark Alexander This workshop is designed for novice to intermediate Oncourse users. Designed to have you up and running quickly with Oncourse, this workshop will focus on the most commonly used tools in Oncourse. Participants will have the opportunity to work with the following tools: course email, syllabus, resources, announcements and gradebook. Bring a digital copy of your syllabus to get the most out of this session. This workshop will be held online using Adobe Connect. You will need working speakers to hear the presenter. 	Fall 2012 Associate Faculty Forum Tuesday, August 14, 2012 \| UL 1125 \| 5 - 8 p.m. Register» \| Presenters: IUPUI Faculty and CTL Staff \| Organizer: Jennifer Beasley We welcome faculty with part-time appointments to join us for an evening of discovery, reflection, and learning. You'll find something for you, whether you have taught before or are new to the classroom. The evening’s interactive sessions will cover a variety of teaching topics, and you will find something new, exciting, and useful. Topics will include: basics of using Oncourse; advanced functions of Oncourse; how to use IUPUI classroom technology; creating an effective syllabus; and grading strategies. There will also be a welcome session and overview of some IUPUI academic policies and procedures. Representatives from various IUPUI departments and offices will be on hand to provide information on resources available for you and your students. One of the best ways to display a syllabus in Oncourse is to convert it to a PDF, upload and link it to the syllabus tool. This workshop will show you the steps necessary to achieve this goal. 	IU Kokomo Statewide Faculty Conference 2012 Friday, September 7, 2012 \| 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. Register and for more information» Program overview» The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (CTLA) is pleased to present our fourth IU Kokomo Faculty Conference this fall. Resident and Adjunct Indiana University Faculty will share their innovative teaching ideas for promoting student learning and engagement in their classes. This event presents and celebrates some of the important work in teaching that IU faculty members are engaged in. Registration is open for the fall IU Kokomo Faculty Conference! Hear about the examples of academic excellence used by Indiana University faculty from multiple campuses. Registration deadline is Monday, August 27 at noon.
