Decisions about course design, such as late policies, grading structure, learning activities, and assessments, significantly impact students’ learning experiences and outcomes. In this webinar, you will be introduced to evidence-based practices for equitable course design, reflect on the rationale for your course design, and articulate changes that consider your identities, teaching philosophy, and course context.
This webinar is part of the Center for Teaching and Learning’s online mini-workshop series focused on foundational teaching skills, Teaching@IUPUI. Designed for new faculty, adjunct faculty, graduate students, and those looking for a refresher on good teaching practices, the webinars are short, with a brief presentation interspersed with opportunities for interaction and questions. Grounded in current research, the workshops address various teaching topics and provide participants with strategies and resources to make instruction more effective, efficient, and enjoyable. Sessions are scheduled with the time of semester in mind, to keep topics relevant for faculty needs at that time.

Video shooting and editing can be overwhelming, especially if your expertise isn’t in media production. But if you have ever taken video on your smartphone, then you can build engaging instructional videos. This workshop will show you how to use your smartphone, computer, and Adobe Premiere Rush (a tool available at no cost to all IU faculty, staff, and students) to create videos that can easily be integrated into courses. Premiere Rush can also be used to edit other video, such as screen captures or video lectures, and students have access to it, so they can use it for creative projects you might assign. This session will cover the basics of using Premiere Rush and will provide examples and ideas about how Premiere Rush can be useful in your teaching. We’ll also discuss steps needed to make sure videos you create are accessible to all learners.

You have your shiny new Canvas courses for fall semester, but you don't want to start from scratch! Learn how to import some or all of your content from a previous course and make Canvas do the bulk of the work for you. We'll also talk about important things that you need to check and do after importing and before giving students access to the course.
We'll have tips on
- automatically updating assignment due dates,
- checking for dead links in your content, and
- making sure students are seeing what you want them to see.
In addition, we'll cover some basic beginning-of-the-semester tasks to get your class started on a positive and welcoming note and to help make the rest of the semester easier for both you and your students.

This workshop introduces faculty and staff to the Quality Matters (QM) Rubric and to the QM Process. Quality Matters is a nationally recognized quality assurance organization for online course design, and the QM Process is a faculty-led peer review process that uses the research-based standards (criteria) of the QM Rubric to certify online courses. Eventually, many online courses within the IU system will undergo the QM Process with the goal of achieving national QM recognition. Faculty may also use the QM Rubric as a guide to design online courses. And, for faculty who are interested, this course serves as a pre-requisite for QM's Peer Reviewer Course, which is a required course for faculty who seek certification as a QM Peer Reviewer, allowing them to participate in QM course reviews for courses created here at IU and at other universities.
The workshop is offered at IUPUI as a one-day synchronous Zoom workshop from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.with a one hour break for lunch. To receive the QM certificate of completion for this workshop, participants must be present for and participate in the entire workshop.
