Project Title: Experiential Learning in Motorsports Operations
Funding Level: $3,750
Abstract:
IUPUI has become recognized as the leading American university in the area of motorsports education, with programs in motorsports engineering, motorsports technology, and motorsports studies currently in place. Additional programs in motorsports management are proposed for the near future. A truly unique opportunity has recently been present to the university by one of the most recognized motorsports sanctioning bodies in the country, the United States Auto Club (USAC). IUPUI motorsports students, under the guidance of IUPUI Motorsports Director, Pete Hylton, will be given the opportunity for an immersive experiential learning opportunity. Participating students will see the inside of the motorsports industry while participating in an eight event race series promoted by USAC in the Indianapolis area. Students will have the opportunity to function as race officials in a variety of capacities, including the USAC technical inspection team and timing and scoring team as well as participating in the organization, promotion and management aspects of the series. These students will have the chance to learn alongside experienced USAC officials and observe how a sanctioning body manages a racing series, gaining experience in both technical and non-technical capacities.
