The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is the systematic study of teaching and learning to better understand and improve student learning experiences and outcomes. Peter Felten (2013) outlines five principles of good practice in SoTL: 1) inquiry focused on student learning, 2) grounded in both scholarly and local context, 3) methodologically sound, 4) conducted in partnership with students, and 5) going public (p. 122).
The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) supports the development and documentation of reflective and evidence-informed teaching practice, facilitates conversations and community around inquiry into teaching and learning, and offers avenues for dissemination.
Through our programs, events, and consultations, the CTL helps instructors explore ways to expand their teaching practice to scholarly contributions and connects them with appropriate campus resources and partnerships when specialized support is needed.
